OUR PRODUCTS

Schaefer Marine products are designed and intended for use on sailboats for specific stated applications. Other non-sailboat applications or uses in other industries is not recommended without prior approval from Schaefer Marine. Stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics can be degraded over time without much external evidence due to the effects of environmental exposure. We recommend that you inspect your hardware regularly for deformation, wear, cracks or corrosion. We will be happy to inspect any Schaefer fitting free of charge to determine if repair or replacement is necessary. Contrary to common belief, stainless steel is not totally rustproof. All stainless steel will rust to a certain degree due to a natural chemical reaction to air and salt water particularly where there is abrasion, friction or welds. The problem though, is mainly cosmetic and is solved with metal polish and frequent fresh water rinsing.
Vessel construction methods and quality are highly variable. Proper reinforcement in the boat or mast and correct fastener size is essential to insure proper attachment of all fittings. Consultation from the boat manufacturer or a naval architect is recommended for any questionable applications. Prudent seamanship dictates that all of your marine hardware and blocks receive regular inspections for deformation, wear, cracks or corrosion. Even if your boat has had little use, corrosion or the endless rocking action of the boat at the mooring may cause damage that could affect the strength of the fitting. If, after inspection, you are in doubt about the integrity or safety of any of your Schaefer fittings, send them to our factory and we will inspect them at no charge.
